“Nobody sang the blues more spontaneously, nobody led a wilder life in the 1960s and plied rock harder than Janis Joplin”
– this is how Ellis Amburn, the author of the book “Pearl. The Obsessions and Passions of Janis Joplin” wrote about the American icon of hippie rock.
Janis Joplin passed away 41 years ago, but the memory of her still lives. This is due to the musicians who pay homage to the artist during their concerts and try to cultivate her achievements.
For many years Ela cooperated with Maciej Zembaty (who has popularised Cohen’s music in Poland and translated most of his songs), singing ballads of Leonard Cohen. Together they recorded several albums and performed at hundreds of concerts throughout Poland.
Most often, words come first. I start with a short poem. The song “He Likes Me” was created in this way. It arose from four phrases which came to my mind, when I was preparing food in the kitchen. Then I expanded it. Such little poems emerge from great emotions. I do not think about music then.
